U.S. Sen. Stabenow Proposes Voluntary Country of Origin Meat Labels

Michigan’s senior U.S. senator is proposing voluntary country-of-origin labeling on meat.

The U.S. recently lost a court case brought by Canada and Mexico concerning our current country-of-origin labeling requirement on beef and pork.

So, Senator Debbie Stabenow, a ranking member on the Senate Agriculture committee, says the current requirement should be replaced, but producers should still have the option to use the label.

Stabenow says she’s heard from both producers and consumers that want labels on meat to show it’s born, raised and processed in the U.S.A.
