New Vehicle Coming For Houghton Police Department

The Houghton Police Department will be getting a new vehicle, though you may never see it coming.

The new vehicle would not be decked out like a standard police interceptor and would not be used on regular patrols.

It will, however, be equipped with flashing lights in the grill and have some police equipment inside.

Houghton Police Chief John Donnelly said the department would use the vehicle when officers take trips or when they want to be less visible.

City Manager Eric Waara said they are currently looking at two options–a new vehicle or a slightly used one.

The city council approved the spending of up to $32,109 from the equipment fund for the vehicle.
