Extended Stay on Gay Marriage Ruling

The U.S. Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals is extending its hold on gay marriages in Michigan. The appeals court voted 2-1 yesterday to extend its temporary stay on same-sex marriages until formal arguments are heard in the case, as requested by Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette, who is considering asking the U.S. Supreme Court for another stay to keep same-sex couples from marrying. The 6th Circuit Court of Appeals issued a stay on Saturday temporarily halting marriages among same-sex couples following U.S. district Judge Bernard Friedman’s ruling on Friday that Michigan’s bans on gay marriage and same-sex adoption violate the U.S. Constitution’s Equal Protection Clause.
