State Fruit Debate Heating Up

Two competing proposals in Lansing have started a debate over which fruit should be Michigan’s official state fruit. And a new poll may only add to the debate. The survey from Lansing-based Marketing Resource Group shows more than 68% of voters believing that the official state fruit should be the cherry. Just under 22% say it should be the blueberry. Each fruit is named in separate bills introduced in Lansing. While the cherry leads statewide, voters in the Upper Peninsula have a different opinion. The poll says 58% of Yoopers believe the blueberry should be the official state fruit.
