Embridge Talks About Partnership with MTU on Buoy

The oil company that has a pipeline under the Straits of Mackinac is teaming up with Michigan Technological University to put a buoy in the water to help monitor weather and wave conditions.

Michael Barnes of Enbridge says once the buoy is deployed it will collect real-time data on weather, waves and water flow, which will be useful in protecting its oil pipeline.

He says they will use the information to add supports to make sure the pipeline remains stable, reliable and safe.

Barnes says Enbridge is sponsoring the project by the school’s Great Lakes Research Center.

Information collected by the buoy will be posted on a website, which will be accessible to the public.
