MLB – Tigers Shut Out Rangers
After struggling much of the second half of the season, Alfredo Simon threw the best game of his career last night. Simon gave up just one hit to earn his first complete-game shutout, as the Detroit Tigers blanked the Texas Rangers 4-0. Nick Castellanos drove in two runs for the Tigers.

The Tigers return home to host the Rangers tonight. Justin Verlander will start against Colby Lewis.

As expected, the Tigers put starter Daniel Norris on the disabled list yesterday. He strained an oblique muscle, and is expected to miss two to four weeks. As not expected, starter Anibal Sanchez is joining Norris on the DL, with a strain in his right rotator cuff. Team officials hope he won’t miss more than two weeks.

Relievers Guido Knudson and Jose Valdez have been called up from Toledo. It’s Knudson’s first major-league stint. The Tigers filled one of the holes in their rotation by obtaining former Brewer Randy Wolf from the Blue Jays in a cash transaction yesterday. Wolf pitched all of this season in Triple-A. He’ll start against the Rangers on Saturday. Buck Farmer will take the second rotation spot, and will start Monday at Cincinnati.

The Milwaukee Brewers had yesterday off, and open a set at Washington tonight. Jimmy Nelson will pitch against Gio Gonzalez.
