MI AG Trying to Round up Untested Rape Kits From Across the State

The new fiscal year, which begins next week, opens up an opportunity to see how many rape kits still need to be tested in Michigan.

$1.7 million is set aside in the new state budget to process the untested kits.

Attorney General Bill Schuette sent a letter to prosecutors and police department’s Friday to find out how many untested kits they have.

Those departments have until October 9th to get back to the AG’s office.

A backlog of 10,000 untested rape kits found in Detroit in 2009 was recently cleared freeing up resources to test rape kits from outside of Wayne County.
