Fuel Economy Down

While the price of gasoline in Michigan has been rising over the past three weeks, fuel economy is down.

The University of Michigan Transportation Research Institute found, for the second straight month, average fuel economy — as listed on window stickers of cars, light trucks, vans and SUV’s bought in September — was 25-point-two miles per gallon, down one tenth of a percent compared to August.

The decline is likely due to earlier reductions in the price of gas.

Fuel economy in purchased vehicles is down by six-tenths of a percent from an August 2014 peak, but up 5.1 percent from October, 2007.
