Improving Teacher Evaluations

A Michigan House committee has approved a measure that specifies criteria for evaluating teachers and school administrators. The two bill package, approved on a 9-to-3 vote by the House Education Committee Tuesday, would for the first time include student growth in rating the performance of a teacher. An education advocacy group, the Education Trust-Midwest, has said that Michigan would lose its waiver from certain strict provisions of the No Child Left Behind Act, if the legislature does not approve the bills. The legislation now goes to the full house for consideration.
