Chassell Man Charged in Snowmobile Accident

A Chassell man is charged with driving a snowmobile while drunk after falling through the ice of Portage Lake. The Houghton County Sheriff’s Department says he is 43 year old James Manderfield. He fell through the ice shortly before 12:30 Saturday morning near Dollar Bay. Manderfield was taken to Portage Health in Hancock for treatment. The Houghton County Sheriff’s Department arrested him for operating while intoxicated on a snowmobile, which is a misdemeanor. Manderfield is free on bond and has a pretrial on January 22nd in 97th District Court.
