Fracking Ban Signature Drive Falls Short

Organizers of a ban on fracking, a method of cracking rocks to extract natural gas, have failed to collect enough signatures to get on the November 2016 ballot.

It’s the third time the Committee to Ban Fracking in Michigan has tried to get the question on a ballot – failing in 2012 and 2014.

The group needed 253,000 signatures to qualify for the ballot, however they were only able to get about 150,000.

Critics of fracking say it pollutes the environment, but the natural gas industry says the technique has been used safely in the state.
