MTU Receives Grant for Water Quality

The Michigan Department of Environmental Quality has announced grant awards totaling more than $3.1 million to improve water quality in Michigan lakes and streams. Among those receiving grants was Michigan Tech, who will receive $144,710 to demonstrate the use of a permeable reactive barrier to treat groundwater contamination in the Huron Creek and reduce copper loads to Lake Superior. These grants will protect high quality waters and work to restore impaired waters by reducing nonpoint sources of sediment, nutrients and other contaminants.
