Controversy Continues Over Wisconsin City Pulling Water From Great Lakes

Their drinking water is tainted with naturally occurring radium–now the city of Waukeshaw, Wisconsin says tapping into Lake Michigan is their best alternative.

However, they are getting opposition from U.S. and Canadian mayors within the Great Lakes region who will meet Tuesday for a final vote on the city’s $207 million plan that would return them to fully treated wastewater.

Waukeshaw would be the first U.S. city outside the Great Lakes basin to use lake water.
