Jarrod Saltalamacchia’s two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth inning lifted the Detroit Tigers to a 4-2 victory over the Kansas City Royals yesterday afternoon. KC scored single runs in the second and third innings against Tigers’ starter Michael Fulmer, who then settled in to complete eight innings. Detroit scored on a balk in the third inning, and tied it on a wild pitch in the sixth.  Saltalamacchia’s blow to win the game came off former Tiger Joakim Soria.

The Tigers open a three-game home set against the Minnesota Twins tonight. Matt Boyd will pitch against Ricky Nolasco. Hear the first pitch at 7:10 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.

Billy Hamilton scored on a passed ball in the bottom of the ninth inning, as the Cincinnati Reds edged the Milwaukee Brewers 1-0 yesterday afternoon. Hamilton drew a two-out walk off Tyler Thornburgh. He advanced to second on another walk, stole third, and raced home when Will Smith’s curve ball got past catcher Jonathan Lucroy. The bullpen failure spoiled a fine start by Zach Davies, who gave up just four hits over seven innings.

The Brewers have today off, and begin a series at Pittsburgh tomorrow night. Junior Guerra will pitch against Jameson Taillon.
