One Dead, One In Custody After Shooting In Laurium

LAURIUM–One woman is dead and one man is in custody after an incident Saturday night in the Village of Laurium.

Just after 11:45 p.m., officers with the Laurium Police Department were dispatched to the 100 block of Florida Street.

When police arrived, they found a 44-year-old woman dead in the side yard of the residence.

Police say she appeared to have been shot.

A 32-year-old man inside the residence was taken into custody.

The suspect is expected to be charged by the Houghton County Prosecuting office and arraigned in 97th District Court.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing.

Troopers with the Michigan State Police – Calumet Post, MSP Wakefield Post, Keweenaw County Sheriff’s Office, Lake Linden Police Department, the Houghton County Medical Examiners Office and the MSP Grayling Crime Lab all assisted at the scene.
