DEQ Study Says State Need To Focus On Great Lakes

The second of four reports focused on a strategy for the Great Lakes says there should be a focus on renewing waterfronts, promoting water accessibility and investing in the state’s commercial and recreational harbors.

The Department of Environmental Quality’s Office of the Great Lakes developed the strategy which is focused on recommendations to ensure the continued protection of the water and support of Michigan’s blue economy by focusing on beach health, water trails, sustainable fishing, watershed-friendly farming techniques and the accelerated creation of water technologies.

The Office of the Great Lakes says twenty percent of Michigan jobs are connected to water resources in some way.

Two other reports are due out later this summer.
