Ribbon Campaign Marks Suicide Prevention Awareness Month

September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month.

In the United States, one person completes suicide every 13 minutes.

Copper Country Mental Health Training and Prevention Coordinator Brian Rendell says experts believe that most suicidal individuals do not want to die.

When suicidal behaviors are detected early, lives can be saved.

To help create awareness and reduce stigma, Suicide Prevention Regional Educator Christina Mayworm says that the Western Upper Peninsula Suicide Prevention Coalitions have started a ribbon campaign.

Anyone who may be contemplating suicide is encouraged to call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-TALK (8255) or you can call Dial Help’s Crisis Intervention Hotline at 482-HELP (4357).
