The Michigan Department of Education says that Michigan high school juniors continued to score better on both the ACT college entrance exam and the Michigan Merit Exam. However the number considered to be “college and career-ready” declined slightly. And there was a slight drop in the percentage of juniors meeting proficiency in ACT mathematics. The average ACT score increased for the fourth straight year. Scores increased in all categories for those taking the Michigan Merit Exam. Average rates were nearly 59 percent in the writing category. However the average for science was only 28.4 percent. Scores in social studies and reading increased the most.
