Michiganders Joining In Pipeline Protest

A protest by Native Americans in North Dakota over the Dakota Access oil pipeline, is drawing Native Americans from Michigan.

Eric Rodriguez is with the Saginaw-Chippewa Indian Tribe of Michigan, who says they’re protesting the pipeline on ancestral burial grounds and there are concerns about the water supply.

Rodriguez says a group has set up a Michigan host tent at Standing Rock that provides food and shelter to Michigan people who are protesting.

He says they’re prepared to be there through the winter.

President Barack Obama says the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is examining whether the four-state Dakota Access oil pipeline can be rerouted in southern North Dakota to alleviate the concerns of Native Americans.
