Changing Term Limits in Lansing

The Senate GOP leader and the Governor have a one on one meeting set for Tuesday and on Senator Randy Richardville’s to do list, is changing term limits. Currently senators can serve for eight years and it’s six years in the house. Richardville wants to give local voters a chance to keep their lawmakers in office but he hasn’t decided for how long. To give his proposal more appeal to voters and his colleagues, the Monroe Republican would expand the package to include a requirement that if legislators don’t show up for work or if they don’t adopt the budget on time they would not be paid. Richardville says he thinks that makes this a comprehensive package that no one would want to vote against.
