MI Scores Low in Child Well Being

Michigan continues to score poorly in child well being in the most recent Kids Count rankings. Since the launch of the first Kids Count Data book 25 years ago, Michigan has improved in child and teen death rate and teen pregnancies, but continues to struggle in overall child well being, ranking 32 in the nation. Among the recommendations to improve the state’s child well being ARE restoring education funding cut since the start of the Great Recession and more tax credits and food and cash assistance for families that earn the least. The report also calls for more focus on education and child poverty.
