Nassiri Stands Mute

safe_imageThe domestic assault case that has been getting a lot of national attention is inching closer to a trial. 34-year-old Nima Nassiri was arraigned in Houghton County Circuit Court yesterday on charges of second-degree murder for the alleged assault of his wife, 27-year-old Senaz Nezami, who died days after the incident last month. After the charges against Nassiri were read by Houghton County Prosecutor Michael Makinen, Judge Charles Goodman asked Nassiri for his plea and he chose to stand mute, which allows the court to automatically enter a plea of not guilty. Both attorneys agreed for a pretrial conference to be scheduled in 30 days. Nassiri will face life in prison if he’s convicted.
