Renovations Begin At The Houghton County Medical Care Facility

Renovations are set to begin at the Houghton County Medical Care Facility.

Today’s groundbreaking ceremony marks the beginning of the $8.5 million project.

Work includes extensive remodeling of the basement, ground floor and first floor, with additional remodeling on the second and third floors, plus upgrades to the food service and creating a more home-like atmosphere on all floors.

The project is expected to take about 18 months to complete.

The facility provides nursing home care and other services to vulnerable adults who otherwise may not be able to afford it.

They have 197 beds and provide care for roughly 375 local residents on an annual basis.

Voters approved a millage renewal for the facility last August with an overwhelming majority.
