Fatal Munising Shooting Investigation Complete

The Michigan State Police have completed their investigation into the fatal shooting of a Munising-area man by a police officer. MSP Negaunee Post Commander Lt. Robert Pernaski says the State Police have submitted a full report to the Alger County Prosecutor’s office for review. He says no additional information will be released until after that review is complete. An officer from the Munising Police Department shot Timothy Mitchell to death on July 14th on Buckhorn Road in Munising Township. Police have said Mitchell crashed his vehicle moments before the shooting after leading the officer on a chase from the city of Munising. Mitchell had reportedly been a suspect in a domestic altercation in Christmas that evening. The name of the officer that shot Mitchell is not available. He’s been placed on administrative leave, with pay, until after the investigation is complete.
