Downstate Man Hurt in ORV Crash

A downstate man is in critical condition after an ORV crash in Alger County Sunday afternoon. Troopers from the Negaunee Post of the Michigan State Police say the accident happened around 5:30 on H-58 near H-15 close to the Bear Trap Dam. They say 49-year-old James Welsh of Farmington Hills was following another ORV on the side when the tires of the vehicles made contact, causing him to lose control of the ORV. He was ejected from the ORV. Troopers say Welsh was wearing a helmet and was transported to Marquette General Hospital by Alger County EMS. The driver of the other ORV, a 20-year-old family member, was not injured. The accident remains under investigation.
