Owl Improving At Chocolay Rapter Center

A papa owl that received a lot of media attention after it was shot and rehabbed two years ago is back at the Chocolay Raptor Center.

On Friday, the center received a call that an owl was down on the ground across the street from St. Peter’s Cathedral in Marquette.

The owl was found on his back with his eyes closed, breathing but otherwise not moving.

He was taken back to the center for treatment and the owl opened his eyes Saturday afternoon.

Rehabilitators believe the owl may have suffered a concussion after being hit by a car and could take about five days to recover.

No other injuries were found on the animal.

He and his mate have nest at the church where they raised two chicks in 2015 and another last year.

There’s no sign of chicks yet, but they are expected to be hatching soon.
