Tigers Fall Late to Bosox – Saturday Sports Wrap

The Boston Red Sox scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning, and came from behind to defeat the Detroit Tigers 5-3 Friday night. Detroit built an early lead, thanks to home runs by Nicholas Castellanos and Mikie Mahtook. Jordan Zimmermann turned in a quality start, allowing two runs on six hits over six innings. Boston’s comeback came against Alex Wilson in the eighth inning. The big blow was a two-run homer by Jackie Bradley Jr.

The Tigers continue that series at Boston tonight. Justin Verlander will pitch against Chris Sale. Pregame coverage will begin at 6:45 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.

Aguilar

The Tigers have brought catcher James McCann off the disabled list. John Hicks has been sent down to Toledo to make room.

The Milwaukee Brewers outscored the Arizona Diamondbacks 8-6 Friday night. Each team scored three runs in the first, one in the fifth, and two in the seventh. The difference was the two runs Jesús Aguilar drove home with a pinch-hit double in the sixth. Hernán Pérez homered for Milwaukee. Zach Davies gave up four runs over five innings, and got the win. Corey Knebel earned the save, as the Crew used five relievers.

The Brewers continue that series at Arizona tonight. Junior Guerra will start against Zack Godley.

NHL
The Stanley Cup series continues tomorrow night at Nashville. The Pittsburgh Penguins lead the Nashville Predators three games to two.

NBA
The Cleveland Cavaliers extended the NBA championship series with a 137-116 victory over the Golden State Warriors Friday night. It was the first post-season loss for the Warriors this spring. Golden State leads the series three games to one. Game five will be played Monday in Oakland.

Fishing
This is Michigan’s Summer Free Fishing Weekend. Anyone may fish today and tomorrow without a license. All other rules are still in force. In conjunction with Free Fishing Weekend, the 27th annual Ontonagon Kids’ Fishing Derby will be held today at the Ontonagon Marina. Youth up through age 16 are invited to take part in a number of events. Registration opens at 9:00, and prizes will be awarded at 1:00. NFL
Detroit Lions’ offensive lineman Taylor Decker will miss the start of the upcoming NFL season. The team announced that Decker underwent surgery for a torn labrum this week. The typical recovery period is four to six months, meaning the earliest he could return would be October.
