UPSET West Making A Difference

The new UPSET West team is making a big difference in the area’s fight against drugs.

Houghton Police Chief John Donnelly, who was instrumental in getting the local narcotics team formed, gave an update to the city council at their regular meeting Wednesday.

Donnelly said there are eight suspects, apprehended through efforts by UPSET, who are currently going through the federal grand jury process and not adding to the overcrowding at the Houghton County Jail.

In his update, Donnelly said there have been 25 felony arrests and most are of people not from the area.

The other good news, the chief added, was this effort is helping to bring forth local people who have substance abuse problems and get them help to recover from their addiction.
