City Contracts Approved With 3% Pay Raise

Many employees of the city of Houghton will be getting a raise.

The city council approved contracts with the Department of Public Works, the Houghton Police Officers Association and the city’s Non-Union employees.

Approval for the contract for Houghton Police Supervisory Employees was put off until the next meeting.

Employees of the Houghton DPW and non-union employees will see a three percent pay increase, as will the police officers, contingent on the approval of the police supervisory contract.

If that contract includes a higher pay increase, the Police Officers Association may want the same amount.

Houghton City Manager Eric Waara said the Personnel Committee authorized a four percent pay increase for him but he declined, opting to take the three percent offered to all non-union employees.
