MI Among Worst in Jobless Rates

Michigan has tied three other states for the third highest jobless rate in the nation. Michigan’s unemployment rate in July was 7.7 percent, the same rate as Nevada and Rhode Island. Only Mississippi, at 8 percent, and Georgia, at 7.9 percent, had higher unemployment rates last month. Gongwer News Service reports it marked the first time in some four years that Michigan has not had a jobless rate lower than Nevada. North Dakota remained the state with the lowest rate in the U.S. at 2.8 percent.
