John A. Keranen

TRIMOUNTAIN

John A. Keranen, 54, passed away unexpectedly and entered his heavenly home on September 17, 2017. He will be remembered for his kind heart, love for family, and generosity for others.

John was born to Wilbert and Delores Keranen in Hancock on December 23, 1962. He was a 1981 graduate of Jeffers High School and worked at a number of area employers including Portage Health Hospital and Baraga Maximum Security Prison.

John was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who enjoyed spending time with his family, watching the Green Bay Packers, reading, engaging in thought-provoking discussion, and doing things for those he loved. He found love, life, and Jesus at Hope Fellowship and engaged in many church activities, including readings and singing as part of the Praise and Worship team. He will be dearly missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.

John is survived by the love of his life, wife Lynn (Silvola); his son, Jacob Keranen of Houghton; his daughters, Katie (Jason) Tormala of Atlantic Mine and Shari (Bruce) Portnoff of Ypsilanti; his grandchildren, Ethan, Jordan, and Brooke Tormala; his mother Delores Keranen of Hancock; siblings Dave (Connie) Keranen, Rick Keranen, Bob (Karen) Keranen, Joel Keranen, Edie (Dennis) Stark, and Carol (Mark) Janisse; and numerous nieces and nephews, whom he loved dearly. He is preceded in death by his father, Wilbert; brothers, Paul and Chuck; and nephew, Gary Gardner.

A funeral service is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Friday, September 22, 2017, at Hope Fellowship in Houghton, with Pastor Jon Kangas to officiate.  Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service on Friday at the church.  Burial will be in the Mountain View Cemetery in South Range. Arrangements are being handled by the Mountain View Mortuary of South Range, Antila Funeral Service, Inc.  Online condolences may be expressed to the family at antilafuneral.com.
