Changed Stop Signs Results In More Speeding On Houghton Avenue

The Houghton Police Department is concerned about motorists speeding on Houghton Avenue.

Changes were made to stop sign orientations recently to make the road more bicycle friendly.

Police Chief John Donnelly says the lack of stop signs has led to the speeding problem.

The department plans to add signage on the street to make motorists aware that it is a heavily traveled area by cyclists and pedestrians.

Donnelly also said that the key to solving the problem is to make it so the street is not the fastest way through town.
