The gay community has been hoping for a vote in Lansing to add sexual orientation and gender identity protections to Michigan’s civil rights law, but it’s yet to be determined whether that vote will happen. Those in the LGBT community would like to see movement on the legislation extending the Elliot-Larsen Civil Rights act to gays, saying its not fair that an employer can fire a person because of their sexual orientation. But Michigan House Speaker, Republican Jase Bolger says while he does not favor discrimination, he is not convinced that eliminating it with legislation is going to work. Bolger also will not say whether there will be a vote on the issue.
