Casperson Linked To FBI Corruption Probe

Casperson

State Senator Tom Casperson is reportedly being linked to an FBI investigation into corruption surrounding the affairs of a Detroit towing leader.

The FBI briefly released wiretap transcripts last week concerning towing company owner Gasper Fiore and possible bribes and other special favors.

Casperson’s name appeared in transcripts printed by the Detroit Free Press as possibly receiving payment for helping with an effort to amend the budget for the Michigan Department of Transportation.

Casperson is the chair of the Senate Transportation Committee.

The FBI has named 18 targets as part of an ongoing public corruption probe.

The Detroit Free Press article can be viewed here.

State Representative Scott Dianda issued the following statement concerning the article:

Statement from state Rep. Scott Dianda (D-Calumet) on news story regarding FBI investigation of pay to play politics:

“This morning, a Detroit Free Press article reported that potential bid-rigging occurred over a multimillion dollar contract between the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) and a Detroit area towing company. We need answers from the department on what I consider yet another example of MDOT’s disregard of being good stewards of our taxpayer dollars and potentially awarding a state contract on a pay to play basis. I urge the Governor to get to the bottom of this fiasco by putting his department’s management on administrative leave and hold his officials accountable of any wrongdoing.”
