Kings, Jets, Lakes Claim Boys Hoops Wins – Wednesday Sports Wrap

High School
In high school girls basketball last night…
– Houghton fell to Marquette 54-50 in overtime.
– Calumet lost to Negaunee 61-36.

On the boys schedule last evening…
– Jeffers edged Houghton 44-42.
– Calumet defeated Chassell 66-53.
– Lake Linden-Hubbell got past Republic-Michigamme 61-47.

There’s one boys game tonight, and it’s a big one. Unbeaten Dollar Bay-Tamarack City will host unbeaten Ewen-Trout Creek. Both teams are ranked in the top-10 in the state in several polls. Our broadcast coverage will begin around 7:00 on KBear 102.3 and KBear102.com.

Finlandia
Both Finlandia University basketball teams play at St. Scholastica tonight.

The Finlandia women’s basketball team has been seeded first in the upcoming American Collegiate Athletics Association tournament. The Lions will face Pine Mountain in the opening round on February 24th at Pine Manor in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts.

The Finlandia women’s basketball team has introduced a new recruit. Victoria Nagy is a point guard from Sault Ste. Marie. She was named to the Straits Area Conference All-Defensive Team last season.

NHL
The Detroit Red Wings lost to the Boston Bruins 3-2 last evening. Martin Frk and Frans Nielsen scored for Detroit. Jimmy Howard stopped 28 shots in the loss. The Wings visit the Islanders in New York on Friday. Pregame coverage begins at 6:40 on 99.3 The Lift.

NBA
The Detroit Pistons host the Brooklyn Nets tonight. Tipoff is at 7:00 on 99.3 the Lift.

New Pistons center Willie Reed has been suspended without pay for six games by the NBA, following a domestic violence incident involving his wife. Reed was arrested August 5th after an altercation. His wife later said the incident had been blown out of proportion, and asked that the charges be dropped. Reed avoided legal action by participating in a counseling program. The NBA Players Association says it will challenge the suspension, which is scheduled to begin tonight. Reed was obtained by the Pistons from the Clippers in last week’s Blake Griffin deal.

Our Finlandia University athletics coverage continues Saturday, when the Lions women’s basketball team entertains Silver Lake College. Our pregame show will start at 12:40 on 99.3 The Lift, and 993TheLift.com.
