Equal Pay Day Draws Attention To Gender Wage Gap

Those calling attention to the gender wage gap will be gathering today on the campus of Michigan Tech.

In recognition of Equal Pay Day, the Copper Country League of Women Voters and other supporters will host a “Red Out” near the Husky statue from 11:30am to 12:30pm.

They will be handing out cookies and literature on what people can do to help close the gap.

Equal Pay Day symbolizes the extra days women work to catch up to what the average man earned the previous year.

Red is worn on this day as a symbol of how far women and minorities are “in the red.”

Today’s demonstration coincides with a larger event taking place in Lansing on the Capitol steps
