A state House committee is considering legislation that would require anyone seeking public office to be up-front about any past felony convictions. House Republican Klint Kresto of Commerce Township authored the measure, which would add a box acknowledging any felony convictions within the past 10 years on the affidavit of identity candidates are required to file with the Secretary of State. Currently no such disclosure is required. Kresto says he believes felonies in the last ten years should be disclosed because those seeking public office need to gain the public’s trust. Kesto says juvenile convictions would not be subject to disclosure.
