MLB
The Detroit Tigers had yesterday off, and open an interleague series at Pittsburgh tonight. Jordan Zimmermann will pitch against Chad Kuhl. Pregame coverage will begin at 6:40 on 99.3 The Lift.

The Tigers have designated reliever Drew VerHagen for assignment. That removes VerHagen from the roster, and gives the team seven days to trade him, release him, or place him on waivers. If he clears waivers, he can be assigned to the minor leagues. Outfielder Mike Gerber has been called up from Toledo.

The Milwaukee Brewers also have yesterday off, and will begin a quick interleague set against the Royals tonight. Zach Davies will pitch against Ian Kennedy.

Former major leaguer and longtime Milwaukee Brewers staffer Davey Nelson has died. Nelson made the 1973 All Star Team as a speedy infielder with the Texas Rangers. He joined the Brewers’ staff in 2001, first as a minor league instructor, then as first base coach under manager Ned Yost, and then as a front office employee and analyst for Fox Sports Milwaukee. Nelson passed away Sunday, after a long battle with cancer. He was 73.
