Finlandia
Five Finlandia University softball players have been honored by the American Collegiate Athletic Association. Denia Bent and Harlie Caster were named to the All-Conference first team. Bent actually made the team twice – as a shortstop, and a pitcher. Second team honors went to Kassandra Avila, Makenna Gorham and Cassandra Lopez. Lions head coach Katherine Hannagan shared Coach of the Year honors with Courtney Hyland of SUNY Canton.

Former Finlandia hockey player Cole Workman has joined the staff at Bemidji State University as an assistant coach. Workman spent the last two seasons as head coach of the Thief River Falls Norskies in the Superior International Junior Hockey League.

MTU
Former Michigan Tech women’s basketball coach Kim Cameron has been named assistant coach at Bowling Green State University.

MLB
The Detroit Tigers had yesterday today off, and begin a home series against the Seattle Mariners tonight. Matthew Boyd will pitch against Marco Gonzales. Pregame coverage will begin at 6:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

The Milwaukee Brewers defeated the Colorado Rockies 5-2 last night. Lorenzo Cain homered on the game’s first pitch. Jhoulys Chacin pitched into the sixth, gave up two runs, and got the win.

The Brewers play at Colorado again tonight. Brandon Woodruff has been called up from Colorado Spring to start for Milwaukee. Chad Bettis will counter for Colorado.

NHL
In the NHL playoffs last night, Winnipeg advanced with a 5-1 win over Nashville. The Jets won that series 4-3, and will face Las Vegas in the opening game of the Western Conference final tomorrow night.

The Eastern Conference final opens tonight, when Washington plays at Tampa Bay.

NFL
The National Football League will review allegations that new Detroit Lions coach Matt Patricia may have been involved in a sexual assault 22 years ago when he was in college. An indictment was brought against him after an alleged spring break incident in Texas. The case was dismissed when the complainant did not show up at the trial. After the story broke earlier this week, Patricia said he had been falsely accused. Lions officials admitted they had not been aware of the incident, but are standing behind him. The New England Patriots, who employed Patricia for the past 14 seasons, also say they knew nothing about the case.
