Houghton Dog Park Approved

The neighborhood in central Houghton will be getting a new dog park.

The City Council approved up to $7,500 for materials needed to build the park at the corner of Houghton Avenue and Quincy Street on the north side of the former high school site.

A survey by the city showed the majority of those responding were in favor of the park.

Houghton City Manager Eric Waara said rules will be posted at the park and adjusted as necessary to address any problems.

The dog park would provide a place for people to bring their dogs and let them off the leash to run.

Fencing from the seawall at Ray Kestner Waterfront Park will be repurposed for the park, which would also include benches and waste containers.
