Road Repair Projects Move Forward

The Federal Disaster Declaration is helping to pave the way for road repair work in Houghton.

City Manager Eric Waara gave an update on the road work to the Houghton City Council at their regular meeting Wednesday.

Agate Street was paved ahead of the arrival of college students but it is only a temporary cap.  The street will be completed in the spring.

Crews were also able to pave over the patch on Sharon Avenue east of M-26 where a new culvert had been installed after the June 17th flood washed out the road.

Waara said they will begin to work on Dodge Street Thursday followed by Bridge Street with a full repavement project for Bridge Street taking place in early fall.

Waara also said the city is working with the Federal Highway Administration and the Michigan Department of Transportation on various priority projects, including where city streets intersect with Montezuma Avenue.
