Number of Kids Eating Breakfast Goes Up

A new report says there was a two percent increase in the number of low-income children in Michigan who ate breakfast during the 2012-2013 school year. The School Breakfast Report Card, from the Food Research and Action Center, says just under 323,000 low income children participated in a school breakfast in Michigan. On an average day nationally, 10.8 million low income children participated in school breakfast, an increase of 311-thousand from the previous year. About 50% of Michigan’s low-income children now receive a free or reduced price meal.
