Former Finlandia Coach Pleads No Contest To Assault Charge

A former Finlandia football coach accused of aggravated assault appeared in court this week for a plea deal.  34-year-old Robert Boss was arrested on charges of Aggravated Assault- Domestic Violence from an incident that happened in August 2016.

Boss previously worked for Northern Michigan University as a defensive and offensive line coach, academic coordinator, and run game coordinator.  Charges were brought to him while still employed at NMU.

Boss plead no contest on Monday in accordance with his plea deal.

The court referred the case to probation for a pre-sentence interview.  Sentencing will be scheduled for a later date.

Boss served as the Offensive Coordinator for the Lions before being named the Head Coach following the 2017 season and was replaced later by assistant head coach Travis Wiltzius.
