Man Drowns After Boat is Capsized

One person drowned when a boat capsized Wednesday on a Marquette County lake. The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office says three employees of the Huron Mountain Club in Powell Township were working on Mountain Lake in a 16 foot flat bottom jon boat winterizing campsites around the lake when the incident occurred. According to the boat’s occupants, a wave came over the bow and caused the boat to capsize. All three of the employees were thrown into the water. Two of them were able to swim to the shore, but the third was left distressed in the water. Deputies say one employee was treated on scene and released. The second employee was taken to Marquette General Hospital for hypothermia. Life-saving measures were exhausted on the third employee, who was later pronounced dead at the hospital. Names are still being withheld pending notification of family and further investigation into the incident.
