Boating Safety Class Offered

A boating safety class is being offered in Keweenaw County.

In order to legally operate motorized watercraft in Michigan, those born on or after July 1, 1996 may legally operate a boat only if they successfully complete a boating safety course, have been issued a boating safety certificate and have it on board.

People born after December 31, 1978 wishing to legally operate a Personal Watercraft must be at least 16 years of age and must possess a valid boating safety certificate while on the water.  Other restrictions may apply.

Children less than 12 years of age may take the class, however a parent or guardian is requested to attend with them.

The 8-hour class will be held 9am-5pm on Saturday, June 1st at the Ahmeek Village Hall.  Lunch will be provided.

To register, contact the Keweenaw County Sheriff’s Office at (906) 337-0528.
