Beckman Benefit Dinner This Saturday

A benefit spaghetti dinner is being held this Saturday to help the family of a former Calumet High School teacher who was recently diagnosed with a rare form of dementia.

30-year-old Melissa “Curtis” Beckman is suffering from Pick’s Disease and is among the youngest ever treated at Mayo Clinic with the disease.

Gardenview Assisted Living and Memory Care Executive Director Maggie Seppala said this is an extremely rare form of dementia.  “Even at Gardenview where we deal with many types of dementia, this is one of the most rare, and again, being 30 years old, it is almost impossible to imagine that,” said Seppala.

Gardenview has partnered with Calumet High School to host the dinner at Gardenview this Saturday from 1-4pm.

There will also be live music, a bake sale, and a raffle to raise money for the family. A freewill donation will be collected at the door.

If you can’t attend the dinner, but would still like to assist the family, contribute through their GoFundMe site here.
