Strawberry Fest Begins Today

The Copper Country Strawberry Festival opens today, featuring one of the Keweenaw’s sweetest agricultural products.

On a recent Copper Country Today program, Judy Evart of the Chassell Lions Club told Rick Allen that strawberry growing in the area boomed early in the 20th century, as the lumber industry faded…

No strawberries are exported anymore, but the same heritage strain is still grown for local use…

Strawberry shortcake will be served at the Chassell Pavilion all day today, and tomorrow morning and afternoon.

Schedule highlights include a fish boil this afternoon, the crowning of the Strawberry Queen this evening, a pancake breakfast tomorrow morning, the Strawberry Parade tomorrow at 11:00, a chicken barbecue after the parade, and one of the largest arts and craft fairs in the area. See the full schedule here.
