Former State Rep to Face Sentencing

A former state representative has pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor charge of Willful Neglect of Duty by a Public Officer.

Todd Courser of Silverwood, in Lapeer County, was accused of soliciting a state employee to send out a false email.

Courser was originally charged with several felonies after trying to use state resources to cover up an affair with Representative Cindy Gamrat of Plainwell. Both were members of the conservative Tea Party.

Courser eventually resigned his office. Gamrat was expelled by other House members. Courser will be sentenced September 16th in Lapeer County Circuit Court.
