U.P. Energy Task Force Hears from Copper Country Residents

The Upper Peninsula Energy Task Force continued its fact-finding tour in Hancock Friday.

The group heard from controversial Line Five pipeline owner Enbridge and some other experts in the morning, then opened the floor for public comment in the afternoon.

As the session closed, Task Force member Roman Sidortsov from Michigan Tech summarized what he’d heard…

The group agreed that the discussion about propane needs to include more than just the future of Line Five, which provides almost two-thirds of the U.P’s supply, and which some want shut down because of environmental threats.

The Task Force is looking at propane first, with its report due next March. It will then broaden its focus to produce a more comprehensive report by March of 2021.
