Tech Hockey Sweeps Robert Morris – Monday Sports Wrap

High School

In cross country today, Calumet, Hancock and Houghton will be among the teams competing at the West Iron County Invitational at the George Young Golf Course.

Finlandia

The Finlandia University men’s soccer team lost 2-0 to Wisconsin-Whitewater yesterday.

GLIAC

The MTU hockey team scored five goals in the first period, and went on to rout Robert Morris University 7-0 yesterday. Alec Broetzman scored a hat trick, and Trenton Bliss, Parker Saretsky, Brian Halonen and Eric Gotz each scored once.

The Michigan Tech soccer team suffered its third straight loss, falling to Ferris State 3-1 yesterday. Gabby Sgambati’s late goal prevented the shutout.

NHL

Anthony Mantha scored four goals, as the Detroit Red Wings edged the Dallas Stars 4-3 last night. The Wings spotted the Stars a two-goal lead. Mantha scored three straight to give Detroit brief advantage early in the third period. Dallas quickly re-tied the game, but Mantha found the net again with 54 seconds remaining to seal the win.

The Wings host the Anaheim Ducks tomorrow night. Pregame coverage begins at 7:10 on 99.3 The Lift.

Detroit also made a low-level trade over the weekend, sending minor-league forward David Pope to the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for journeyman defenseman Alex Biega.

NBA

The Detroit Pistons begin their exhibition campaign tonight at home against the Orlando Magic. Listen for select regular-season Pistons games again this season on 99.3 The Lift.

MLB

In the National League divisional series yesterday, the Braves downed the Cardinals 3-1, and lead that series 2-1. The Dodgers pounded the Nationals 10-4 to take a 2-1 lead in that series. Both of those sets continue today.

Both American League divisional series resume today. Houston plays at Tampa Bay – the Astros lead that set 2-0. New York plays at Minnesota – the Yankees are up 2-0 in that series.

NFL

The Green Bay Packers built an early lead, and held off the Dallas Cowboys 34-24 yesterday. Aaron Jones rushed for 107 yards and four touchdowns, and the Green Bay defense held the Cowboys off the scoreboard through the first half.

The Detroit Lions had the weekend off. 

In last night’s contest, the Indianapolis Colts handed the Kansas City Chiefs their first loss of the season, 19-13.
